i’m experiencing a mighty hankering to play metroid prime, and figure easiest thing to do would be to go to the nearest eb games or related, pick up an old gamecube, and used copy of the game. i don’t own a tv, however, and never intend to probably ever again, so i’m trying to figure out how i’d connect it to my lcd monitor. unfortunately, i didn’t think to look at nor take a picture of my monitor to find out what kind it is. these are links i’m finding doing research on this:

oddly enough, this is a difficult topic to initially search for. i’m finding mostly answers of “i don’t know” and then conflicting answers. i know i don’t want to run an emulator, cuz i doubt my mac mini could adequately emulate a game like metroid prime, without sacrificing gameplay. i’m not quite sure why, in the search results i’m skimming thru, people are talking about hooking up the gamecube to their pc. from my understanding, the game console acts as a computer, basically, so why would you link it to another computer, merely to link it yet again to a monitor? why not link directly to the monitor?

the above thread something about an issue moving from digital to analog, or vice versa.

wikipedia says this was a 3rd party peripheral made for the gamecube:
VGA Adapter – created from modified component and d-terminal cables, allows GameCube play on a standard computer monitor in full 480p.
so i google “gamecube vga adapter”
would my flat screen monitor be vga? see, i don’t know because it’s not really mine, it’s on loan from a friend; all i know is that it connects to my mac mini, i didn’t need to buy a special connector, so i didn’t think anything of it.

i think rather than continuing to research this, i should probably figure out what kind of monitor i have, which means this’ll have to wait til tomorrow. (sigh) i will update this post when i figure out what i need to make this happen.

You need a TV Tuner like the ATI TV Wonder 200 that comes with a Component input box to Video out and the Video out connects into the TV tuner’s video in port.
What you’re looking for is a “VGA Upscan Converter”. Do an Ebay search for “G-Combo +”. It runs off usb power and is designed specifically for the PS2 but also works with Gamecube and Xbox. I just sold mine 3 days ago. I was using it to play PS2 on the sly at my office workstation.
i means that it connects to my mac mini, i didn’t need to buy a special connector
