adobe updater, in my experience, has turned out to be one of the most un-user friendly and annoying “updater” utilities i think i’ve come across in some years. i can’t surf the web while the updater is running? are you serious? it takes over an hour to install the updates? are you serious again? even world of warcraft patch updates let me surf the web, you ninnies. and 9/10th of what you’re installing… i have no idea what these things are. again, this “device central” concept you keep throwing in my face, has it ever been explained what use, at all, this has for me?
this youtube video agrees with me. =)
i’m having an odd problem trying to get a vector version of our logo to an outside company creating some items for us. i first sent them the original illustrator file, as a backup to the high-res jpg of the logo they’d already had. they told me that they only had cs2, not cs3 like i use at work, and could i please save it as a cs2 file. so i did, made sure type was converted to outlines, saved the illustrator file as cs2, zipped it up and ftp’d it so they could download it.
3 days later, they’re telling me… here’s their exact words:
I just got this from one of the manufacturers.
Please try and resent it with this corrected.
I’m not 100% sure what this even means. Never heard this before.[Name of Promo Company Contact],
The art file you sent for this order is missing a “link” file named “Untitled.psd”.
Please copy this file into your art and resend or send me the link file.
now, i didn’t choose this promo company, another coworker did. and i’m not sure that i would. i couldn’t rely on a company that deals, on a daily basis, with taking in image files from customers, as a basic part of their business, and they don’t have cs3. also, the guy is using an aol email account. and the above quote from the guy was pretty much… anyhow, that’s not the issue. something i’ve learned dealing with printers, i can get frustrated with printers for not knowing their business, or i can educate myself and make sure i do what’s necessary to make the jobs go smoothly.
so i’m trying to figure out why this twice removed printing company is talking about a missing psd file. i copied and pasted an image from a photoshop file into this illustrator file, did a livetrace of it, and then edited it further in illustrator, pulled it into the rest of the logo design. i then saved the file, zipped it up, sent it to them. what i can’t figure out is why they’re getting an error message that a .psd file is missing, that’s something i’ve never encountered before. however, i have very little experience with illustrator, so it’s possible i’m the one doing something wrong. i just spent the last 20-30 minutes googling various combinations of illustrator, preflight, package, missing files, etc, and can’t find the solution. if i find it, i’ll post here. but if in the meantime anytime reading has a solution, let me know, i’d be grateful.
